GENEROUS SUPPORT. LASTING IMPACT.
Compensation at a Glance
First-time surrogates start at $65,000.
On top of your base compensation you receive approximately $12,000 in benefits, plus reimbursement for lost wages, childcare, housekeeping, maternity clothing and travel.
If you have carried before, your experience is reflected in what you are paid. We will go through the specifics with you directly.
Carrying twins adds $5,000 to $10,000.
Your final figures are written into your legal contract before anything medical begins, so you know the complete picture before you commit to any of it.
SURROGATE COSTS
You Should Never Have to Pay Out of Pocket
Your intended parents cover one hundred percent of the costs. That includes:

-
IVF medications and all medical procedures
-
Health insurance premiums, or a surrogacy-friendly policy if yours does not cover it
-
Travel, including flights, hotel, and mileage at the IRS rate
-
Maternity clothing
-
Childcare and housekeeping
-
Legal fees, including your own independent attorney

There may be the occasional moment where you pay a copay at an appointment or pick up a prescription. You submit it, and you are reimbursed.
Every reimbursement runs through the escrow account rather than through your intended parents directly.

SURROGACY COMPENSATION
How and When You’re Paid
Your compensation is managed through a licensed third-party escrow company, giving you peace of mind that every payment is secure, transparent, and delivered according to your contract.
Your intended parents deposit the funds up front
Before anything begins, the money is placed with a licensed third-party escrow company. Kindred never holds your funds and neither do your intended parents.

Your base is paid in monthly installments
Divided into 8 payments, beginning once your pregnancy is confirmed by heartbeat at around six to eight weeks, and continuing through postpartum.

Payments arrive by direct deposit
Straight into your bank account from escrow. Never a personal transfer from your intended parents, and never something you have to ask for.

Expenses are reimbursed within 7 to 10 days
You submit the expense, escrow processes it. Because the funds are already deposited, you are paid on time even if your intended parents are travelling or dealing with something at their end.

The exact schedule is written into both your benefits package and your legal contract, so you will never be guessing when something is due.
Frequently Asked Questions About Compensation
Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often from prospective surrogates.
SURROGACY COMPENSATION FAQS
Is surrogacy compensation taxable?
The honest answer is that it depends on your situation, and we are not the right people to advise you on it. We strongly recommend consulting a tax professional familiar with surrogacy and licensed in your state, so your specific circumstances are reviewed properly against current IRS guidance. If you do not have someone, ask us - we can point you toward professionals other Kindred surrogates have worked with.
Who actually holds the money?
A licensed third-party escrow company, independent of both Kindred and your intended parents. State law prevents non-attorney surrogacy agencies from holding escrow funds, and we would not want to hold them even if we could. The separation is what protects you. Your intended parents deposit the funds up front. The escrow agent disburses your monthly compensation and processes your expense reimbursements.
What if I have a question or a problem with a payment?
Start with your Case Manager. She is your main point of contact and she will chase escrow on your behalf rather than handing you a phone number. You will also have direct contact details for the escrow manager, provided at contract signing, if you would rather go straight to the source.
